Sangguniang Bayan
Municipality of Pandan
Antique, Philippines
Dear Celedonio,
I just read Dr. Bob Alojipan's email and I was glad to learn that you are
also against the NAPOCOR power plant, although I wasn't surprised at all. We
need people like you in our fold.
As one of my students in PBI, you impressed me as fiercely independent,
determined, and courageous. You would not back out from what you believed
in, regardless of whether you were alone or had someone on your side. But
you always had supporters because your infallible sense of right and wrong
was your strongest suit. You also had a gruff demeanor when riled, enough to
scare those who were faint of heart. It was like telling them, "Mess with
me, and you'll live to regret it." This was the Celedonio I knew when he was
in high school.
True to form, there you are again in the midst of the NAPOCOR controversy and
holding your own as a staunch supporter of justice and righteousness. You
make me so proud of you. Not only that, I am deeply touched because it's
like going back in time. I can see you rolling up your sleeves and getting
ready for whatever it takes to make sure that nobody steps on your toes and
those of whom you have pledged to protect.
Thank you for having the wisdom and foresight to glean through the devastating effects the NAPOCOR power plant will create in our kasimanwas'
lives, environment, and well-being. Thank you for your courage to openly
oppose the project. Thank you for your steadfast commitment to fight for the
common good. If there is anyone who knows the value of good health, clean
air, clean environment, peaceful living, tranquil surroundings, and a clear
conscience, it is YOU because you have been blessed with these gifts.
Let me assure you that you are not alone in this fight. There are many of us
who, like you, will never turn their backs or look the other way when our
kasimanwas' existence is endangered. We are committed to go the distance and
bear with you the struggles and the price of reaching out to protect and save
our beloved kasimanwas and our beloved place.
We say "NO TO NAPOCOR!" I salute you, and more power to you.
Very truly yours,
(Sgd) Thelma Mantac Ramos
