The Northwest Peninsula of Panay in Aklan and Antique (No. 7), the Central Panay mountains of Madjaas-Baloi complex (No. 8), and the Northwestern Panay or Gigantes (No. 9) are among the 17 sites named enviromment hot spots in the Philippines.

On February 5, 2003, during the session of the Sangguniang Bayan of Pandan, the SB Members with the Vice-Mayor as the presiding officer finally discussed about issuing a resolution on the proposed diesel power plant in Patria, Pandan, Antique. Among the Sangguniang Bayan Members, 2 voted NO (they're against the diesel power plant), 3 voted YES (for the plant), 3 abstained and 2 were absent. The 2 SB Members who voted against the DIESEL POWER PLANT (they said NO TO DIESEL POWER PLANT) were Hon. Celedonio A. Dionela and Hon. Jesus A. Dionela.
Several days after, the Mayor of Pandan, Hon. Plaridel "John" E. Sanchez VI vetoed the resolution.
